5. Reward your pet's obedience. All of the steps for training aggressive dogs must involve treats. If you train your dog how not to bite perhaps, you need to award his obedience with some dog treats. The dog will then understand that you love being obeyed and he can get a prize with that. That will keep him obeying your commands.

6. If your still cannot control your dog's aggression, you better seek for professional help. You can enroll your dog into some obedience training camps where both you and your dog can learn how to end his aggression. This is very helpful for new dog owners who are yet to understand how to care for their pets.

Recently, much news was published about unsafe commercial pet foods. This news, of course, sounded an alarm among pet owners. But, unfortunately, this problem isn’t really ‘news’. It seems that incidents similar to this occur from time to time. Perhaps this is one reason more and more people are opting to ‘home cook’ for their pets. However, in order to properly home-cook for your pets, you should first have a basic knowledge of canine nutrition; and, even more importantly, a thorough knowledge of human foods that are harmful to dogs. Some foods which are safe for human consumption can be poisonous for our canine companions. E-dog-training.com has put together a list of 25 common human foods that are toxic to dogs. Of course, when in doubt, always check with your vet. Here is a list to get you started:

1. Onions (Both onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient Thiosulphate. But onions are more of a danger. Many dog biscuits contain *small* amounts of garlic – garlic contains less of this toxin so huge amounts would need to be consumed to be toxic. And, by the way, this poison builds up the system – it can be toxic in one large dose – or with repeated consumption of small amounts.)

2. Chocolate (Chocolate contains Theobromine, a compound that is a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic. This can be fatal to dogs.)

3. Grapes (Grapes are dangerous because of an unknown substance which is toxic to dogs – affects canine’s kidneys)

5. Most Fruit Pits and Seeds (Contain Cyanogenic Glycosides resulting in cyanide poisoning – though the fruit itself is OK.)

6. Macadamia Nuts (Macadamia nuts contain an unknown substance that is toxic to dogs.)

7. Most Bones should *not* be given (especially chicken bones) because they can splinter and cause laceration of the digestive system and/or become lodged in your pet’s throat – so they also pose a choking hazard.

8. Potato Peelings and Green Potatoes (Contain Oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.)

9. Rhubarb leaves (see above)

10. Broccoli (Broccoli is only toxic in large quantities.)

11. Green parts of Tomatoes or Green Potatoes(Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.)

12. Yeast Dough (Yeast Dough can produce gas and swell in your pet’s stomach – leading to rupture of the digestive system)

13. Coffee/Coffee Grounds and Tea ( are dangerous due to the caffeine.)

14. Beer/Wine/Alcohol of any kind (Alcohol of any kind could lead to coma or even death.)

15. Human Vitamins (Human vitamins, especially those containing iron, can cause damage to the lining of the digestive system as well as cause kidney and liver damage)

16. Moldy or Spoiled Food (though I think this goes without saying.)

17. Persimmons (Persimmons can cause intestinal blockage)

18. Raw Eggs and Raw Fish (Raw eggs and some raw fish can cause Salmonella poisoning.)

19. Salt, Baking Soda, Baking Powder (In large amounts these can cause an electrolyte imbalance – and severe electrolyte imbalances can lead to muscle spasm or even congestive heart failure.)

20. Mushrooms (Mushrooms may contain toxins which could cause liver and kidney damage)

21. Sugar-Free Foods (Sugar-free foods containing Xylitol have been found to cause liver failure in some dogs.)

22. Nutmeg (Nutmeg can cause tremors, seizures, and central nervous system damage.)

23. Excessive Fatty Foods (Excess fatty foods can cause Pancreatitis.)

24. Avocado (All parts of the avocado and avocado tree are toxic to dogs.)

25. Diary Products (Dairy products don’t usually pose a great danger; but many dairy product have high fat content (see number 23) – and many pets are lactose intolerant – some pets more than others. Lactose intolerance leads to gas and diarrhea; though small amounts of yogurt and cheese are usually fairly well tolerated.)

Dog food is for dogs and human food is for humans, and never the twain shall meet. Unfortunately, this is a rule that many dog owners do not follow when they feed their dogs "people food" and some suffer the consequences. There are 10 foods you should never give your dog because these items are unsafe, and in some cases toxic, for the pooch.

Chocolate- this is toxic for dogs and can therefore kill them. The caffeine and several other ingredients affect the heart and nervous system of the canine. Based on the fact that caffeine is toxic, coffee and tea are also on the do-not-feed list.

Bones- bones from real animals should not be given to dogs to chew on. They can splinter when the dog bites them and these splinters enter the digestive tract, causing harm to the system.

Grapes- this can be tempting because humans view these fruits as healthy, but they are not good for dogs. Grapes contain a toxin that can damage canine kidneys or cause them to fail. Raisins are dried grapes, so these should also not be fed to dogs.

Pork- though the dog may love it, this food is not good for its digestive tract. Dogs who have consumed pork frequently develop diarrhea, a sure sign that the food is not sitting well.

Mushrooms- these have toxins in them that can put a dog into a coma and may even cause death.

Milk (as well as milk-based products)- the lactose enzyme is needed to digest milk and dogs do not have enough of this enzyme. Dogs love ice cream, but owners should resist the urge and instead purchase frozen treats sold especially for dogs.

Onions & Garlic- they both contain ingredients that can affect the dog's red blood cells. Eaten in large quantities, these items can cause the dog to become anemic.

High sugar and processed foods- dogs cannot digest these well, so they should not have them. Foods containing artificial fats and sweeteners are also harmful to canines.

Foods that are spicy or rich- these can harm a dog's stomach. A dog does not need additional spices or other added ingredients in order to enjoy its food.

Spoiled foods- do not use the dog as a trash compactor. If the item is not able to be consumed by humans and is headed for the trash, that is where it should go. Dogs can no more tolerate rotten foods than can humans.

So there it is, 10 foods you should never give your dog without expecting the pooch to become ill or develop a serious health condition. Some of these foods are more harmful than others to dogs, but each should be avoided. Doing so will save unnecessary trips to the vet and the guilt of knowing that the reason the dog is ill is because of the humans in its life.

What kind and how much? What are you feeding your dog now? Would you eat it? Does it taste good and have a good smell? Is it glossy nuggets or crumbly pieces?

Today there are so many dog foods on the market. So many people say "don't feed that; it has corn or other filler in it". "Feed this; "it's all natural with no fillers in it" and so on.

Well I know for a fact there is something like a dog food that is too good for dogs, meaning it's too full of vegetables and/or human grade meat. God created dogs, not to eat human food, but to eat the bones, skin, and innards of animals that most people throw away. Dogs do not thrive on all human grade food. But don't go out and buy the cheapest dog food either. Some fillers in cheap dog foods are chicken feathers, beaks, and other stuff that dogs would never eat if they killed an animal themselves.

Now if the food you are feeding your dog is made by an inspected dog food company it will say chicken by-product as an ingredient if it contains chicken skin, organs, feathers, beaks and such. It's a shame, because skin and organs are a must in a good dog food, where as feathers and beaks should NEVER be found in any food.

Another factor to consider when purchasing dog food is how long was the food made before it was put on the shelf for sale? Does it have more than 1 year expiration date? The best dog food is made after its been ordered, has more then 1 year until it expires. Most dry dog kibble found in grocery stores and other stores are made quickly on high heat and in huge amounts so that a profit can be made quickly. The best grade food is cooked slowly at a milder temperature conserving the nutritional value and taste. If you feed your dog a good kibble such as Eagle Pack that contains nutritious skin and organs, but does not contain feathers and other bad fillers, you can expect less allergies, less skin problems, a good appetite and less vet bills.

But don't just feed your dog dry kibble, feed him a raw beef femur bone from a butcher from time to time. If your dog lives in the house, put the bone in a Ziploc bag in the freezer and get it out just when your dog needs something to chew on or play with, then put it back in the freezer. For a puppy this feels really good when they are getting new teeth.
